A spontaneous visit to the Balkan mountains

2016

On the flight to Sofia I met a dear friend of mine whom I haven’t seen for a while. She was going to Bulgaria for a vacation as well and we were both really happy we could sit together on the what turned to be a quite shaky flight. And in the middle of me singing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to relax my nerves, she convinced me to join her the next day on a short trip through the Balkan mountains. We were a small and relaxed group, going slowly through the mountains (mainly because of me hanging behind making photos).

The hikes were not too hard, the weather was great and the company even better. We would talk a lot about life, experiences, ideas. The conversations didn’t give me the usual pessimistic feeling about Bulgaria, but just the opposite, it seemed to me that my homeland is doing better, thanks to the people who’d work hard to induce change. In the midst of hiking, shooting, and singing my soul out, I was tired, happy and hungry for more. The trip left me not only rejuvenated, but with hundreds of photos to edit, some of them here in this gallery. Enjoy!
